Good Reads: January 2020

It’s the end of the first month of 2020 and I hope you had a good one! The days are getting longer here and I’m looking forward to warmer weather already. How was your January? Are you ready for winter to be over too?

Here’s this month’s edition of Good Reads:

MLSlavePuppet – From ‘Innocent’ Girl to Obedient Slave

Marie Louise’s post is a great exploration of the concept of mindsets and what it means in different situations. She mentions that being called ‘slave’ changed her mindset and how it became a signal. This is one of the things many of us talk about in power exchange – the power of a ritual to help us move into the right mindset. Wanting to have our minds shaped by our Dominants is so common with many slaves and submissives I’ve spoken to and Marie Louise’s post is filled with this journey and exploration.

DeviantSuccubus – I Am Fat: On Fat Acceptance and Fat Shaming

This is a post I could have written and relate to so deeply. Being fat (and using the word) has been a journey all of its own. DeviantSuccubus is candid, honest, and quite clear about her experience of fatness and all the baggage that goes along with it.

DeviantSuccubus – A Celebration of Sex Blogging

Written for Wicked Wednesday’s 400th prompt, DeviantSuccubus writes a needed piece about the sex-blogging community and all the good that it does. I’ve seen a lot of fellow sex writers struggle the last few months with whether or not they should keep writing, the difficulty of navigating social media as a sex writer, and generally feeling like they don’t belong. DeviantSuccubus’ post is a bit of cheer in all the post-holiday stress as we all turn back to picking up the pen and figuring out where to go this year.

Eve Adler – It’s okay if you’re exhausted by sex toys.

I love this article so much. Eve writes “decision fatigue is a real thing” and I can’t help but agree. It’s so much easier to avoid making a decision and not doing the thing than to face the overwhelming amount of choices. I think Eve is right – sometimes simpler is better and it’s more than fine to enjoy sex without all the gadgets.

Girl On The Net – Doxy butt plugs: I like to make him make that noise

I don’t read many sex toy reviews due to a whole slew of personal choices but I was curious about this product since I’m tangentially familiar with the Doxy Wand (I want one!). Girl On The Net has written an excellent useful review along with some hot smut to go along with it.

The Cut – Ask Polly Column – ‘I’m Broke and Mostly Friendless, and I’ve Wasted My Whole Life’

The title of this is…harsh…but I couldn’t help but relate to the letter writer. After a few years of figuring my life out after a breakup, I feel like I’m treading water and don’t know what to do next or what the last ten years mean. Polly’s gentle response is about being curious about shame, becoming okay with how you’ve gotten to where you are now, and that much of it served some kind of purpose.
