Well, 2023 was an interesting year! I blogged a lot less than I wanted to (eek!) and had things in my personal life go a little sideways. But, here we are, with a brand new year and my traditional first post of the year.
Word of the Year
Last year, my word was author with plans to finish a book and begin querying it. I didn’t get that far with my novel but I did finish a full first draft and got well into a second revision! I completed a wonderful author program with a fabulous mentor and came up with a few ideas for my next novel.
This year, I’ve been doing some hard emotional work in therapy and working on reconnecting with myself so this year my word is:
Authenticity is extremely important to me for a plethora of reasons and is something I want to focus on in the coming years. Being authentic with others and with myself. It’s hard to do some days, but I’m finding it to be something that is more and more important to me.
Goals
I’m going to spend a little more time thinking about my goals for this year. I have plenty of overarching goals but I would love to have a handful of specific ones. So far, some of my goals include:
- Read 30 books
- Hang paintings in my house
- Consistent posting on QC
- Finish Draft #2 of my novel
- Teach at 1-2 conventions
- Teach more often in my local community
Right now, most of my plans for 2024 are still fuzzy and loose, which is perfectly fine. Smaller goals may be better for the upcoming year and I’m sure I’ll reach plenty of them!
Do you pick a word of the year? Any resolutions or goals you set for yourself in January? Let me know in the comments.
I hope you had a wonderful holiday season and are looking forward to the new year with love and joy in your heart.
